Two Chicago police officers were injured in a Wednesday night crash on the South Side.
The wreck happened at 10:37 p.m. in the 2300 block of South Halsted Street, according to preliminary information from police.
Two officers were in a squad car responding to an emergency call when their vehicle collided with a Chrysler 300 driven by a civilian, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
The Chrysler failed to yield to police at an intersection, then struck the police car in the rear and crashed into a parked vehicle, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
Both officers were injured and taken in unknown condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, although it did not appear their injuries were life-threatening, Gaines said. Alfaro said the officers are expected to be treated and released. No other injuries were reported. It wasn’t yet known if the Chrysler had any other occupants. No citations had been issued as of about 3 a.m. Thursday, Alfaro said.
The Major Accidents Investigations Unit is investigating.
