Charlie Trotter will receive the 2012 Humanitarian of the Year award from the James Beard Foundation.
The celebrated Chicago chef will receive the award when the foundation’s annual awards, basically the Academy Awards of the food world, are given out on May 7 in New York City. The 52-year-old Trotter announced on New Year’s Eve that he would shutter his namesake restaurant in August.
He is receiving the Humanitaran award for his work with young people through his own foundation and a number of other charitable efforts.
