50 ways to meet your lover
When last we checked, Chicago was home to more than 2,800,000 people, a fair number of which we’d guess are single. In a city this size, the options for finding a little Windy City romance are vast. Here are our suggestions for 50 ways to meet your lover (or at least make a whole lotta new friends that perhaps could include “the one” down the road).
2. Find a bookworm without an apple
Gapers Block hosts a monthly book club at the Book Cellar. The book for Oct. 12 is Lords of the Levee by Herman Kogan and Lloyd Wright. It's nonfiction about a couple of notorious Chicago politicians who operated in the early part of the 20th century. Impress that special someone by drawing modern parallels (Chicago's Olympics bid. Discuss). The reading takes place at 4736-38 N. Lincoln, (773) 293-2665.
3. Date and Dash
It can be hard to talk yourself into speed-dating, but it becomes a little easier when you get to check out cool venues and enjoy drink specials. And with about 20 “dates” in a three-hour period, your chances of meeting at least one potential match are pretty good. Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 at Leg Room, 7 W. Division, (312) 337-2583. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Xippo, 3759 N. Damen, (773) 529-9135. Most events cost $35; www.dateanddash.com.
